Got contacts. And learned that I have
1) a fetal cataract (they were there when I was born, won't grow, and won't go away) and,
2) Pterygium, a wing-like "disease" on the conjunctive tissue around my iris and cornea which encroaches in a wing-like formation on my eye (hence the "ptery"). It is found mostly in farmers and seamen, so Dr. Sasaki was surprised I had it so young, and in such a suburban enviroment. The wind, dust and sun can cause it,  and mine is very minor. He said the contacts should help protect the eye from any more stuff like that. Also, it can cause redness around the eye (AHA!) and would explain why the redness started with marching band (all the dust and wind and sun). So there I go. Hope he's right and the contacts help. I'm surprised no one noticed earlier, but he was very good and professional. And they probably weren't looking for it in someone so young... and not a farmer or a seaman.
